The Map Pack Math: Why Being #1 on Google Isn't Enough Anymore

The Map Pack Math: Why Being #1 on Google Isn't Enough Anymore

In the corporate marketing world, we have a saying: "If you're not first, you're last." But in the floral industry in 2026, even being "first" on the standard Google search results isn't enough.

If your flower shop is a plain blue link at the top of the search results, but you are missing from the Google Map Pack (the top 3 local businesses shown on the map), you are essentially invisible to the most profitable part of your local market.

As a Floral Business Growth Consultant, I look at the data before I look at the flowers. Here is the breakdown of why the Map Pack is the "Golden Ticket" for your revenue.

The "60% Rule" of Local Clicks

When a neighbour in your city types "flower delivery near me" or "best florist in [City]," Google splits the page into two sections: The Map Pack and the Organic Search results.

The data is undeniable: * The Map Pack: Captured between 44% and 60% of all clicks on the page. These are people looking to buy immediately.

  • The Organic Links: The standard website links below the map capture a much smaller share—usually only 15% to 20% for the top spot.

If you aren't in that top 3 on the map, you aren't just "losing rank"—you are losing access to the 60% of customers who have their credit cards out and are ready to check out.

Why Map Pack Conversions are Superior

Why do people in the Map Pack convert at a much higher rate? It comes down to Social Proof and Intent.

  1. Instant Trust: The Map Pack shows your star rating and how many reviews you have. In my corporate experience, we call this a "High-Trust Signal." A customer is significantly more likely to click "Order" for a shop with 150 four-star reviews on a map than a faceless website link.
  2. Reduced Friction: The Map Pack provides a direct "Call," "Directions," or "Website" button. It removes the extra steps between a customer having a "want" and you getting a "sale."
  3. Local Authority: When Google places you in that Top 3, it is essentially giving you a "seal of approval." Customers perceive the Map Pack as the most relevant, vetted options in their area.

The Synergy: Ads + Maps

When I manage campaigns for Adele Rae Florist, I don't treat Google Ads and my Google Profile as separate things. They are a team.

If a customer sees your Google Search Ad at the very top of the page, and then sees your shop again in the Map Pack, your brand authority doubles. This "Double Presence" is how we hit that 50% online sales benchmark.

Is Your Shop Losing the 60%?

If you are tired of being a "ghost" on the map while your competitors take the lion's share of the orders, it's time for a professional audit.

Most agencies will tell you they are "doing SEO." I will tell you if you are actually winning. I use my corporate analytical background to check your Impression Share and your Local Map Ranking to see exactly where your revenue is leaking.

Don't settle for the 20% of "browsers" at the bottom of the page. Let's get you the 60% of "buyers" at the top.
